Tool Page Questions:

Q: I've heard several views about how, and how much to ventilate our buildings. Each spring and fall we all have a round of upper respiratory infections. The uri is hitting both inside and outside animals. So why would we continue to bring in outside air if that is where the problem starts? Wouldn't we be better to contain our environment, filter and sanitize the air rather than bringing in more contaminated air?

Dr. Page: The contaminated air is the inside air. You have to exhaust this air containing viruses, bacteria, dust, skin particles, gases, etc. It must be replaced with Fresh outside air, there is no substitute. Viruses come from the animals. Most uri-s are a result of stale air and infection is not the underlying problem. Give them proper ventilation and this uri-like problem will go away.

Q: How did the inside air get contaminated?

Dr. Page: Dogs are giving off moisture and CO2 using up oxygen.

Q: Then the dogs outside in the fresh air shouldn't get uri-s?

Dr. Page: And won't if they're not in contact with contaminated dogs.

Q: Do Ozone machines help?

Dr. Page: Yes they help to neutralize odors, but to avoid uri-s you have to eliminate excess moisture, gases and dust in the air.
